Why We Built This
Word searches are a beloved puzzle format found in classrooms, newspapers, activity books, and mobile games. But sometimes you get stuck — a word just won't reveal itself, or you need to verify a puzzle's answer key quickly. Existing solvers either required sign-ups, displayed intrusive ads, or sent your data to unknown servers.
We wanted something better: a clean, fast, and truly private word search solver that anyone could use for free. No account creation. No email harvesting. No analytics. Just a tool that works instantly and respects your privacy.
How It Works
The core of Word Search Solver is a direction-aware search algorithm. When you click "Solve," the tool:
- Parses your grid into a 2D letter array
- Normalizes all letters and words to lowercase (case-insensitive matching)
- For each word, scans every cell as a potential starting point
- Checks all 8 directions (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal both forwards and backwards)
- Records every valid match with its coordinates and direction
- Renders a visual grid with unique colors for each word
All of this happens in milliseconds, entirely within your browser's JavaScript engine. No server requests, no data storage — just pure client-side computation.

Technology & Privacy
Word Search Solver is built with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no frameworks, no external dependencies beyond Google Fonts for typography. The entire application is static and can be downloaded and run offline.
We do not collect any data. There are no analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, no cookies for tracking, and no server-side logging of your puzzle inputs. The tool is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may collect standard server logs (like any web host), but those logs are not accessible to us and contain no personal information beyond standard HTTP request data.
